Open Your Treasure of The Quran
'Aa'ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, relates that the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said: "Verily the one who recites the Qur'an beautifully, smoothly, and precisely, he will be in the company of the noble and obedient angels. And as for the one who recites with difficulty, stammering or stumbling through its verses, then he will have TWICE that reward." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
With the rapid climb of 'no time' we find ourselves committing to things that are not as beneficial spiritually. We read our obligatory prayers yes, but it important to establish that it doesn't stop there.
The many benefits of reading Quraan are not strictly restricted to the hereafter. Research conducted by the University of Salford, United Kingdom where 15 male and 15 female psychology students were part of a study. Some were to read the Quraan, whilst others were made to read a non-religious book.
Surprisingly enough, researchers found that blood pressure, heart rate and perceived stress levels of students dropped after reciting holy Quran. On the contrary, no significant change was noticed in students after they read the other book.
The (many) Benefits of reading Quraan.
1. ITS AIDS IN MEMORY
One of the pressing concerns of aging is the deterioration of memory, or rather simply, memory loss. Pronunciation of the Quraan stimulates an area of the brain located in the temporal lobe. The temporal lobe is also where the hippocampus is located, which is the memory consolidation centre. Muhamed Ghilan, a microbiologist currently pursuing a PHD in neuroscience in the University of Victoria in his research discovered the more activation this area receives, and the more involved this activation is such as the case with the Quran, the better and more efficient it becomes in its functions for learning and memory.
2. IT ENHANCES YOUR SOCIAL SKILLS.
I would have never considered the Quraan to be influential in the social aspect of our lives but according to Ghilan's research other brain regions the activity of Quran recitation strongly activate are the frontal lobes and the primary motor cortex. This trains the area of the brain responsible for inhibition, which is important for social interaction. Children withADHD have been shown to have this area to be under-developed.
3. IT CONTRIBUTES TO YOUR GENERAL KNOWLEDGE
The majority of us only read the Quraan in its language of decent, Arabic. Whilst there is surmountable reward for this, not all of us are fluent in the language. Though we may recite the Quraan with genuine love on a daily basis, we aren't able to understand the significance and relevancy of its verses. The secret behind the exponential rise in scientific advancement and contribution to human knowledge was the Quraan. The Quran is rich in its content for history, parables, and logical arguments, so making the time to study the interpretation of the Quraan and its meaning will be much more beneficial than you would have otherwise thought.
4. IT'S THE ULTIMATE ANTI-DEPRESSANT.
The older generation question the reliability of the modern day Psychologists, alluding them to be a 'MONEY MAKING SCHEME', redirecting people to the Quraan as the ultimate 'anti-depressant.'Whilst modernists may laugh at the absurdity of it there is research that has proven its credibility. Even former British Premier, Tony Blair, said that the Quran was a 'reforming book, it is inclusive. It extols science and knowledge and abhors superstition. It is practical and way ahead of its time in attitudes to marriage, women and governance'.
5. IT IS A SANCTUARY OF PEACE.
Not a single day goes by where I don't hear someone complain about how 'busy' their day is whilst simultaneously scrambling about in a scurry.Whilst the Quraan states:Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured." (Qur'an, 13:28)we often act contradictory to this, searching for peace in material sources.
Suhaibwebb.com elaborates on this further in saying that most of the things that cause real disturbances in our hearts and our lives are tied to what we allow into our hearts. When we allow ourselves to envy and to hate, we are naturally far from being in a state of peace, because our hearts are far from the source of peace – Al Quraan.
